Welcome to Sophia Graydon

Thank you for taking a moment to learn more about us.  My name is Monica Nassif, and I am the founder of Sophia Graydon.

I started Sophia Graydon for two simple reasons.  First, it was impossible to find a lovely pair of pajamas -- an elegant silhouette in a cotton fabric that was beautifully made. No luck. Oh sure, there are flannel nighties (hot and heavy), tiny patches of polyester and lace (five-minute wear) or athletic clothes (enough is enough).

And the second reason I started the company was the lack of style and elegance when it came to sleepwear. Who said style had to end at dusk?  Well, no longer.

We are a new company with a singular mission. We are working diligently to create the most luxurious, elegant and beautifully made sleep, lounge and play wear in the world.

I grew up in a family of seamstresses. My mother, sisters and grandmothers were all talented seamstresses.  While my sewing skills left me long ago, there is something luxurious about a sumptuous fabric, a finished inside seam, a deep hem and, of course, a flattering fit. All of these lovely details make a garment special. 

HOW WE WORK

Atelier Approach:  We are a small and mighty team in Minneapolis.  We work together in a true workroom spirit – an atelier approach – to create our collections.  Our Director of the Atelier also grew up in a household of seamstresses, and she hails from renowned couture and premium brands.  She obsesses over every detail. Draping, making patterns, cutting, fitting, stitching, basting, ripping out, pressing – there is a constant hum of activities.

Fabric Sourcing & Construction: We source our fabrics from fine European mills that serve the premier tailoring market and high-end designer brands.  Our goal is to make all of our garments in the U.S.  Therefore, once our samples are finished in our workroom, and we are delighted with the fit and details, we move into production. We produce our garments in New York workrooms and in our own workroom in Minneapolis.

NAME INSPIRATION

When I started my former business, Caldrea, I combined the names of my daughters: Calla and Aundrea.  Interesting enough, with my new venture, I came across two names from my husband’s side of the family: Sophia and Graydon, a family who lived in Lebanon a few decades ago. Sophia Graydon - I thought to myself - it looks and sounds beautiful.
